Talking About Career Change: The 20 Questions Behind Your Questions

If you’re considering career change, here’s the question you may be starting with: “Should I stay in my current job? Or should I go look for something else?”

(Of course, if you follow this blog, you know we’re diving into that question on our upcoming three-night telelclass starting Feb. 12. It’ll be fast, fun, and it’s risk-free. Find out more here.)

But while many people start with that question, a lot more questions typically lie beneath. And, with so many questions in their brains, people get overwhelmed, worried, and stuck. And then nothing ever changes.

So to make it simpler, here’s a list of the questions behind the big career change question. Get them out of  your brain, on paper, and start answering them (yes, our teleclass will help.) Which ones are you asking? Read More →

To Stay or To Leave Your Job? Four Secrets to Help You Decide

During the past few weeks, I’ve written about why you should stay in your job as well as why you should leave. Yes, I have a perspective on both sides of the issue. And it’s ticked some of you off.

“This decision is really, really hard,” Tom wrote. “Can’t you just tell me which is best now?” And my answer is no . . . not gonna do it. But it’s not because I’m a waffler—it’s because the only person who can make that decision for you is you.

But I can help –in fact, please let me help. I’m  saddened by how many of you amazingly talented professionals are wondering, worrying, stressing about whether you should stay or move on–and then you keep wondering, worrying, stressing–and never make a decision. You need some honest advice, fresh thinking, and perhaps a little kick in the patootie to get into action. So we’ve created that for you in my three-night teleclass starting Feb. 12 called “Should I Stay or Should I Go? A Guide to Making the Big (And Best) Decisions of Your Career.” You can read more here and register for class today.

Until then, if you are one of the many today agonizing over this decision, here are four secrets you should know to make the right decision for you. Read More →

Should You Stay in Your Job? Three Damn Good Reasons

If you’re like a lot of my clients and friends, you’re wondering whether or not you should quit your job (see my article on the four signs to watch to help you answer that question.)

But maybe the other question you should be asking is whether or not you should STAY in your job.

The truth is that many people who are less than 100% delighted with their working life think that the only path to change is a path out the door. But after coaching and mentoring hundreds of successful professionals , I’ve discovered that the path to change might be found right inside your own corporate walls. Here are the three good reasons to stay. Read More →

Should You Quit Your Job? Four Signs to Watch

You’re folding yourself out of  bed on on a rainy Monday morning. You’re brushing your teeth, combing your hair, and looking for the jacket that doesn’t have the coffee spot on it. You’ve already snuck a peek–or three–at your mobile device, and your brain is starting to inbox what’s waiting for you at the office.

Are you excited and energized? Or full of dread? If week after week your Mondays are dread-full rather than grateful, it’s time to have a serious chat with the most important person in your life–you.

It’s time to examine the signs.  It’s time to decide whether it’s time to quit your job. Read More →

Yes, maybe you raised a glass (or three) on December 31. Maybe you’ve kicked the tree to the curb (literally–it’s trash day here.) And maybe you’re back to work, wondering “where the heck did 2012 go?”

Me too. So let’s not let it go, just yet. Hold on a little longer–and give yourself one last gift. Read More →

Four Questions to Ask to Assess the Risk

Four Questions to Ask to Assess the Risk

R-i-s-k. It’s definitely a four-letter word for most of us. Like f-e-a-r. Or p-a-i-n.  Y-u-c-k.

Truth is, we live in a world where we now need to take risks once in a while, especially in our world of work. The time for low-hanging fruit/ easy wins/ phoning in success/ your-cliche-here is gone. (Don’t believe me? See my 16 reasons to take a career risk right now, here.)

If you’re someone who wants to bring your superpowers to work and make the difference you know you can (for yourself  and your family as well as for others), then learning to take more risks is essential.

The secret is to ask the right questions to assess whether this risk, the one in front of you today, is the right one. Here are four questions to ask yourself as you figure it out. Read More →
