They Were Just at Work

The dishwashers, the bankers; the consultants and the shopkeepers. They were just at work that day, doing what they’d done hundreds and maybe thousands of times before. And then of course there were the police, fire, and emergency professionals–all doing their work, hard work, work most of us take for granted.

I was at work that day. Maybe you were, too. And as I remember, l think about all those who didn’t get to go home from work on September 11, 2001.

My hope is that for some, they were doing things they loved. I get sad when I think of the others who weren’t, who waited.

We remember. We live. We work.
