Adapting to Grow with Wendell McClurg of NCH Bonita
If you’re caught up with our second season so far, you’ve heard interviews with Alex Greenwood of Lee Health Coconut Point and Sara McCallum of Bonita Community Health Center.
But there’s a third member of this triad I’ve been thinking of as Bonita’s healthcare hub.
In this interview, meet Wendell McClurg, the system director of operations at NCH responsible for emergency services at the new NCH Bonita, located –yes, you guessed it, near the corner of US 41 and Coconut Road.
While the Naples-based NCH has been anchored in our neighbors to the south for a while, they’ve added outpatient locations over the past several years and the new facility is home to a free-standing emergency room.
Wendell’s a former Army guy who got into nursing and emergency medicine to feel like he was 
continuing to do something that’s meaningful. And for all of us in Bonita who’ve had to drive 20-30 minutes to emergency rooms in the past, knowing that we can now go to not one but two great ERs, well that means a lot.
We talk about:
- What’s really happening inside the ER (Wendell calls it “organized chaos”)
- The vision for the environment and roles at NCH Bonita, which currently employs 70 people
