The Business Of Water: John Jenkins of Bonita Springs Utilities
How much do you know about the water that comes into your home? How does it get there, and from where?
How does it stay clean, safe, and also affordable?
With all the talk about water issues in our area, I knew it’d be a great time to talk to John Jenkins, the executive director of Bonita Springs Utilities.
In this interview, John shares the history of why Bonita Springs Utilities is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, which means they get no tax dollars to do what they do.
You read that right—they’re not a government or privately-held entity—which are models common in other cities. I didn’t fully understand that when I moved to Bonita, and John explains how BSU got there—and why it stays that way.
So, if you’ve ever wondered how water gets to your home—yours and approximately 70,000 of your neighbors in Bonita and Estero—you’ll want to listen to this interview right now.
